Food Safety Program

BC Vegetable Marketing Commission Food Safety Outreach

We provide food safety education for growers, packers and wholesalers based on the CanadaGAP Certification Program. CanadaGAP is the national Canadian standard for On-Farm-Food Safety. It has been vetted for technical soundness by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The majority of our operators already hold food safety certification.

If an operation has not had a food safety audit, we provide a manual, a one-on-one food safety workshop, and translated food safety materials.

If an operation has scheduled their first audit, our food safety specialist can be scheduled to visit the farm or wholesaler and do a pre-audit audit, at their expense, so they have an opportunity to see where they need to make improvements before the audit. We use the CanadaGAP Audit Checklist to do this. We provide them with a written report based on the findings.

We also provide CanadaGAP workshops to update growers currently certified with new or clarified requirements.

We also provide on-call resources for marketing agencies who want to respond to their growers questions about CanadaGAP requirements.
